Spoiler-Free Review

I’ve heard Thor: Love and Thunder described as “a love letter to 80s rock music,” and I don’t disagree. Bottom line: If you didn’t like the tone that Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy took the Thor franchise, you’ll absolutely despise Love and Thunder. It’s a ridiculously fun rock party that had us dancing in our seats, literally singing and cheering throughout.

It satisfied my need for story and character development without being too heavy-handed. I absolutely love how the movie doesn’t take itself too seriously but still keeps that emotional connection alive and definitely kicking .

How about that soundtrack?? I love how many of these MCU movies are reviving great classic music in soundtracks! It’s suddenly made me a cool mom, because I had already introduced my kids to all these songs before.

The Important Question: Are there any post-credit scenes in Thor: Love and Thunder?

Yes! There are are two. So, stick around after the lights come on and all the heathens have left their trash all over the theater (sorry, pet peeve of mine. I mean, who does that???), and enjoy.

Parental Guide

The humor and tone of the movie is fun, but, unfortunately, it seems that the creators think that more fun equals more crude humor, profanity, violence, sexual inuendo, and nudity.

Is Love and Thunder appropriate for children?
That’s up to you as parents, but I wouldn’t take young children to see it.

Potentially objectional content includes:

Nudity (guess Thor really is the butt of all the jokes in this movie). Sorry, had to. What I mean to say is, yes. You will see Thor’s backside. All of it. Try not to drool.
Profanity. A lot of it.
Sexual inuendo: Orgies are mentioned several times. Reproduction processes are discussed, but in a holding hands sort of way (literally).
Violence. I mean same as you saw from previous Thor movies. BUT they did add more humanoid on humanoid violence and made the blood a different color to try and tone it down.
How dark is the movie? It gets pretty dark sometimes. The villain is pretty horror-like, and the monsters are something you might see in Stranger Things.

Personally, I REALLY don’t like how these movies are becoming less and less family-friendly. I really enjoyed the Avengers franchise with my kids when they were little. Harder to do that with these newer movies.

Completely Spoiled Review

I was very impressed with Christian Bale’s villain. His acting was perfect, and the makeup was incredible! I tried to avoid any spoilers beforehand, so when I saw him come onscreen the first time, I was like: That guy reminds me of someone…. That voice… Is that Christian Bale? Guess Batman should have listened:

And the goats! I was laughing so hard at the screaming goats!

I know, I know. I’m rambling. It’s kinda what I do. I waited so long for this movie, and it paid off in a big way.

And Korg! I love you, Korg! So relieved that your body grew back. My heart stopped for a sec when I thought those idiots killed you. (I took the idiot comment back when they showed you were still alive.)

I will admit that I was hoping for the Guardians to have a tiny little bit more screen time, but it was fun to see them. I’ll just have to be patient and wait for their next movie.

The biggest thing I was worried about was Jane returning. Not just her returning, but Jane Foster becoming Thor. I really didn’t want a Jane Foster Thor series. But it was perfect. Just right. Fun, awkward, fierce, and not overdone.

Where is the true hero of the Thor movies? Yes, I know they didn’t leave him out completely, and they’re working on Loki season 2, but still. /cry It’s hard to be happy, even with the heart wrenching tidbits they left us.
