About

Welcome to our House of Geekiness!

I’m Laura Watkins. I’m a writer, crafter, DV and trauma survivor, single parent, dealing with chronic health and mental health issues, and caregiver for my special needs children. I originally started this blog to sell my crafts, but it has grown into a community full of likeminded geeks—many of whom deal with the same sort of issues and has become a place where we can laugh and cry about life and *hopefully* feel that we’re not alone. This page has doubled in growth since Covid started, and as such, experiences some growing pains at times. Please be patient as things evolve.

You’ll notice that I make a LOT of jokes about mental health issues and life struggles. I have clinical depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, ASPD, PTSD, and goodness knows what else. When I bring up these topics, it is not attention seeking, I am not trying to downplay anyone’s life experience, nor am I trying to use terms like OCD or ADHD as a blanket term for common issues that everyone goes through. I talk about my own issues and life stuff (even the extremely personal) with hope to remove the stigma of our society that says we should be ashamed of mental health struggles and never speak of them. We NEED to speak out. We NEED to share. So, I welcome all productive sharing of experiences and ideas as long as it doesn’t contribute to a toxic environment.

At times, I will express some religious beliefs. These beliefs are my own and an integral part of who I am. The other day, someone commented, “You are just as likely to post about God as you are about Harry Potter.” This is true. My religion is a huge part of my life and helps me cope every single day. I share occasional spiritual thoughts and experiences that I think may help uplift others, give hope, and value. I understand that not everyone shares my beliefs, and that’s okay. When I share my beliefs, I’m not attempting to discredit or disrespect anyone else’s point of view. I will try to be sensitive to those who have experienced religion-based trauma. When I do share, it’s something that helped me that day, and I hoped it would help someone else. Period. If it doesn’t contain any value for you, I hope you’ll be able to either kindly and respectfully share your POV, ignore it, or unfollow.
