30 Day Well-being Challenge
This last year has been hard on everyone. Covid just plain sucked. BUT it also became a catalyst for many people to make positive changes in their lives, like focusing more on family and self-care. I’ve spent a lot of time lately trying to improve my family’s overall well-being, and I’ve learned that if I don’t start improving my own well-being, it all comes to nothing.
So, I’ve tried to pay more attention to my needs and my own self-care. To watch for warning signs of burnout, take time out when I need it, and give myself permission to take care of myself. I’ve always been the last person I take care of. I didn’t realize how damaging that was until recently. For years, I’ve felt guilt and shame being the one with poor health and no energy—the one others had to help when I felt like I should always be able to give more. Guess how that happened? I didn’t take time to take care of myself!
One of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn is that EVERYONE needs help, and there’s nothing wrong with that. We’re not meant to live our lives completely alone in this world. Sometimes you serve others, and sometimes others serve you. It’s give and take. There may be long periods of time where your role is one or the other, and that’s okay. Everyone deserves love and kindness—especially ourselves! If we don’t love ourselves, it’s very hard to love anyone else.
A friend’s recent challenge inspired me. She’s doing a 30 Day Writing Challenge. It may not sound like anything unique, but the way she’s set it up makes all the difference! Instead of focusing on results and numbers, she’s told us to celebrate the small things—even if it’s simply thinking about your goal that day. But especially to stay positive! Don’t berate yourself for “only” doing this much—celebrate that you worked toward your goal. I’m hoping to do that here as well.
I strongly believe that important changes are made through small and simple means. This 30 Day Challenge isn’t about doing huge, life-changing things. Small things can help us develop good habits and mindsets. We’re going to spend the next month holding ourselves accountable and cheering each other on as we do one small thing each day to take better care of ourselves. To live a better, happier, more fulfilling life.
RULES:
Hold yourself accountable by checking in/leaving a comment on that day’s Facebook Challenge Post each day sharing what you did to improve your well-being.
(Doesn’t have to be anything crazy, a just checking in once a day with a comment of small thing you did that day that helped you feel a bit better. It could be anything form of self-care (like a few quiet minutes alone, eating a bit healthier that day, have some fun, going for a walk, take a shower (YES! I mean it! Showers are hard to get to), a phone call, journaling, therapy, treat yo self, hobby, reading other people’s comments and cheering them on, or even thinking briefly about your self-care.)
Be kind. We’re not going to criticize, be rude, or judge. ANYTHING that helps improve your well-being counts—big or small!
Read some comments and cheer others on when you can.
